I am directed by Mr. Secretary Amery to

refer to previous correspondence on the subject of

the disposal of the Boxer Indemnity Funds, ending with

your letter F. 2629/57/10 of the 27th May and to

transmit to you to be laid before Secretary Sir Austen

Chamberlain, copies of telegraphic correspondence on

the subject with the Governor of Hong Kong.

Mr. Amery would be glad to learn what reply

Sir Austen Chamberlain would suggest should be returned

to Sir C. Clementi's suggestion as to the debt due from

the Chinese section of the Kowloon-Canton Railway in

his telegram of the 29th of May.

In the event of its not being found possible

to include this debt in the payments to be made out of

the Boxer Indemnity Funds His Majesty's Minister will

no doubt take a suitable opportunity of pressing the

Chinese Government to discharge them.
